Jigoshop Showcase

This week we’re showcasing a site which combines history and education with eCommerce. It’s also a good example of how you can use Jigoshop to offer products from a variety of suppliers and sites to provide a one-stop shopping resource without needing to operate a warehouse full of stock.

Showcase #35: Surviving The Oregon Trail:

Surviving the Oregon Trail is owned and developed by Crystal Calhoun, who has created an educational site teaching history, geography and survival related studies. It’s based around a broad look at The Oregon Trail, which is a 2,000-mile route from the Missouri River. It was originally used for fur trappers and traders, but through the 1800s was the main route for settlers and their families to head to the West.

As you can see, the site is packed with information. There are lessons for students, historical information, survival guides, and activities, alongside the opportunity to buy everything from relevant books and learning material to everything you’d need to spend time out in the wilderness.

To cope with the wealth of products available, you can shop by School Grade, Topic or Survival categories, meaning it’s still easy to find what you need. We spoke to Crystal about her decision to use Jigoshop:

I love WordPress, and when I heard about an eCommerce plugin called Jigoshop I HAD to give it a try! I am currently using the Sommerce template, and I’ve been doing a lot of customization and designing, which I’m pretty good at, so I haven’t needed Premium Support yet, but when I dive more into the sop and products I’ll probably need more help.

One of the big benefits of Jigoshop is that it makes navigation and product listings easy for both site owners and users, including if you’re offering products via affiliate sites. Rather than piling a huge text list onto a blog, you can create a pleasurable shopping experience with as much or as little product imagery and information as you wish.

I’m already recommending it to my website clients. I have a few websites already designed using Jigoshop and my clients are as happy with it as much as I am.

I love the fact I can combine my eCommerce and business blog together. As a designer, having to build a website, blog and then eCommerce all in three separate platforms was rather grievous, so I’m loving the changeover in my work!
